The Real Starting Point: Showing Up, Not Hiding
Hi, I’m Sophia Thompson.
If you’ve landed here, welcome. And if you’re reading this, you’re probably wondering why someone would post a photo in the changing room looking… well, a little unpolished. The truth is, that’s exactly why I’m sharing it.
Almost two years ago, I had a total hysterectomy and oophorectomy — yep, that’s no womb, no ovaries, surgical menopause, the whole package. Life since then has been… well, let’s just say it’s been full of highs, lows, and a lot of “wait, is that really me in the mirror?” moments.
This is me today. Pre-Pilates, pre-effort, black crop top, blue high-waisted shorts, grey trainers — not perfect, not airbrushed, just real. My body is three stones heavier than I was a few years ago. For some, that might not feel like much. For me? It’s noticeable. It’s uncomfortable. And yet, it’s where I start.
I wanted to show this because I believe where you start is more important than where you think you should be. Too often, social media shows us perfect, polished, filtered lives, and it can make real life feel inadequate. That’s not what this is about. This is raw, real, and relatable — a journey, not a highlight reel.
A few years ago, I was slimmer, stronger, more confident — teaching pole, personal training, loving movement and strength. Now, I’m rebuilding, bit by bit, navigating the challenges of post-menopause, hormonal changes, weight fluctuations, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with all of it.
But here’s the truth: this isn’t about where I’ve been or what I’ve lost. It’s about showing up today, taking the steps to become the healthiest, strongest version of myself — and sharing the journey so that others can feel supported, inspired, and seen.
I’m sharing this for anyone navigating hormonal changes, perimenopause, menopause, or post-menopause life. If you’re struggling with confidence, weight changes, or just the sheer unpredictability of your body, I get it — because I’m living it too. And through research, experience, and trial-and-error, I’ve learned ways to rebuild strength, gain confidence, and embrace this new chapter.
So, here’s my starting point. The beginning of a journey. The moment where I stop hiding, stop waiting for the “perfect” version of me, and just start. No judgement, no comparison, just progress in motion.
